Making good TV shows doesn’t have to be expensive. At some point, like the movies, the broadcast networks started making $4M/episode TV with special effects and location pieces. The networks — not just broadcast, but cable — don’t have to be dinosaurs, but they will have to adapt (as you’ve identified). Both revenue streams are going to face ever more competition.

And, to add to that: making good TV shows is still expensive– only cable has two revenue streams. I can’t wait to see how youtube makes the switch to the large screen, and to the series format.

I completely agree, though I think one of the legacy broadcast networks are going to make the migration (perhaps ABC, part of a media conglomerate still offering relevance).

Your first guess is correct — it’s a method to buy ad time on television (Dish Network and 90-something cable channels) via auction. Upload your video, bid on a timeslot, and BANG.

Can you give men elevator-pitch shorthand of what exactly Google TV Ads are? Are they ads that run on TV, but purchased and created via something like Google’s AdWords auction system? Are they TV-style ads that run in Web video, or embedded on other Websites? I’ve heard about the initiative but have never really been able to get my head around it.

Citi is a whole different ball of wax. They’ve also made major investments in the check-cashing and payday loan business, plus financing for mergers and oil platforms in Nigeria and dams in China and toxic mortgage CDOs. Their rapid devolution into a plain vanilla regional bank will be good for everyone.

That said, most major banks have expanded into all markets, with both high-end financial advice and low-end services for the unbanked. Either market can be highly profitable.

So – I saw the ad too… and I too immediatlely saw something other than armpit hair. And I too found it to be a tack and somewhat inappropriate ad. But c’mon – were you REALLY “repulsed”??? Did you look at it, take a doubletake, make either an “eeewww” sound, or giggle a little, then get your panties all in a bunch AFTER the fact? I’m only asking because people seem a little uptight these days – publicly complaining about things that privately make them laugh, and blowing things way out of proportion. My 2 cents.
